Abalone dust is VERY TOXIC, appropriate safety gear (respirator, goggles, apron and gloves) should be used whenever sanding, drilling, cutting, or polishing abalone shell

All of the red abalone used in our jewelry designs were commercially harvested earlier in the last century.
There is only a finite supply of these mature red abalone.
